About Me
Hi, I am Donjha.
I have a desire driven by an internal passion to help others live a life of peace and purpose.
How I got here…
Spending the first half of my life not sure who I was, I spent many years numbing myself and playing a role to live up to the perception of others’ perception of me.
I allowed the external chaos to be my internal norm. No matter how often I attempted to change the world around me, I always felt like I wasn’t living my truth. I wanted depth, meaning, and connection; when I couldn’t find that, my self-destructive behaviors would always win.
Many years of trial and error led me to the power of self-exploration. This allowed me to recognize that it wasn’t the world that needed to change but how I saw and interacted with the world. I realized it was up to me to break the cycle.
My life was my platform. My experiences and how I made it through were my Ted talks. Even knowing that, I could not transform these truths into lasting change.
If you’re anything like me, reaching out and admitting that we don’t have our **** together can be one of the most brutal truths to admit. Yet, the power lies in our hidden truths.
I sought counseling, my world got better, and day-to-day life became significant. Life became moments and not life sentences. You do not have to live like this anymore. That is why I do what I do.
How I work
I am all about meeting you right where you are. Therapy is not about right or wrong, nor do you need to be fixed. It is about learning to manage your day-to-day life with a healthy freedom of expression, passion, and connection.
With a holistic approach to mental wellness, I blend traditional counseling techniques with complementary healing modalities for your unique journey. Through exploring, we develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and move toward wholeness.
I know you need more than a counselor with just education and skills; you need someone who will hear you, explore with you, and walk beside you as you trudge the path toward change.
Reach out now and take the first step toward freedom.
My education and experience didn’t come easy.
When I decided it was time to commit, I was working full time and trying to be present as a mom and daughter while also trying to still be selfish enough for my sanity.
I am grateful for those who held my toe as I floated to the clouds and held out their hands when I stumbled to the ground.
It took me far over a decade to be where I am now. I received my BS in Liberal Studies from the University of Houston in kinesiology, nutrition, and psychology and completed my Masters in Counseling through Lamar University while also pursuing extensive training in substance abuse through Lonestar College.
While on my own healing journey, I pursued many alternative and complementary healing disciplines. I had the privilege of studying shamanism in a year-long apprenticeship, sound healing with an emphasis on drumming, yoga therapy, meditation, and Reiki, just to name a few.
I am currently pursuing educational certification in functional nutrition, which puts a focus on autoimmune disorders. Like I said before, I’m a lifelong learner.
When not counseling…
I am on my continuous quest of exploration and discovery to be a better me. I am an avid reader and watcher of documentaries. I am infatuated with my granddaughter.
On an average day, you will catch me playing dominos with my husband and just talking and sharing about life. I also believe deeply in the body, mind, and soul connection, so I attempt to live my life honoring the principles of practice in this truth.
