For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as a forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self.
The journey doesn’t end.
– Michelle Obama
Knowing is half the battle.
Stop and think for a moment. How many times have you thought about making changes that would be beneficial to your overall wellness? How many times have you taken action, yet found yourself right back where you were? What feelings were brought up when you thought about this?
This lack of progress doesn’t represent you as a failure or incapable. It just means that you haven’t had a blueprint for practical change that was created for you.
Our struggles are real.
There are so many justifiable reasons that contribute to our struggles: lack of energy, time, and motivation or not having the support, access, or proper knowledge.
Maybe we fear injuring ourselves or failure again. The list can go on and on.
Why does it have to be so hard? It goes deeper than willing ourselves into action. As my professor Andrea Nakayama, founder of Functional Nutrition Alliance and a Functional Medicine Nutritionist, stated time and time again, “Everything is connected. We are all unique. All things matter.”
Until we embrace this truth, we will continue to be our biggest barrier toward change.
Understanding the Connection.
Our bodies are intuitive and entirely devoted. When we listen, it offers great wisdom. Yet often, it is our mind that dictates our course of action or inaction.
The Mind-Body Connection is the link between a person’s thoughts, attitudes, behaviors, and physical health. To enrich overall health, we must gain an understanding that our mind and body are intimately intertwined. You cannot truly heal one without the other.
Tend to the Mind…
Before one can start a journey toward sustaining long-term change, the reasons you are here must be understood. What is your why? The mind is a faculty that manifests itself in mental phenomena like sensation, perception, thinking, reasoning, memory, belief, desire, emotion, and motivation. It is with this understanding that we see the mind is the powerhouse toward change.
…And the Body will follow.
We have all heard the old saying, “You are what you eat,” but what does that really mean?
Our bodies are complex, highly organized structures made up of unique cells that work together to accomplish the specific functions necessary for sustaining life. This means that what we put in our bodies plays a significant role in our health and happiness.
Our bodies require fuel, and this fuel feeds every ounce of being. Without the proper fuel, moods suffer. When moods suffer, movement becomes a daunting task instead of a place of release and self-care.
